Resource Room

Interior of the resource room

Scarborough Art Gallery’s colourful Resource Room contains a wide range of art books, art materials and work sheets especially for families with children. Art works by local children are displayed here.

Come along to draw, read or dress up in this special space for families with young children. Relax on a comfy beanbag and admire the displays of artwork by children and young people, or pick up a Gallery Quiz and head off to explore the paintings.

Facilities for families with young children include:

  • Buggy Park Available
  • Toilets and baby changing facilities
  • High chair available in the Coffee Lounge

Making Art on Holiday Thursdays

Families and Children at a Workshop SessionThursdays are Family Activity Day at Scarborough Art Gallery during local school holidays.

Exciting hands-on drop-in sessions inspired by the Gallery’s exhibitions take place between 2 and 4 pm for children aged 4 to 11 years.

These are practical sessions led by artists and Scarborough Museums Trust staff..

Activities are free on admission to the Gallery

Easter Workshops

27 March 2008
Illustration workshop with artist Dawn Brooks inspired by the exhibition Fairy Tales and Fantasy..

3 April 2008, (four 30 minute sessions)
Story Telling with Rachel Green inspired by the exhibition Fairy Tales and Fantasy. Drop-in at 2pm, 2.30pm, 3pm or 3.30pm. First come first served.

Whit Workshop

Thursday 29 May, Drop-in between 2 and 4 pm.
Make sculpture inspired by the exhibition Curious Collecting, with sculptor Tracy Himsworth. Suitable for accompanied children age 4-11 years.

Fairy Tales and Fantasy Workshops

Saturday 5 April 2008, 2-4pm
Story writing with Kate Boddy inspired by the exhibition Fairy Tales and Fantasy. Ideal for accompanied children age 7 - 10 years. Places are limited and should be booked in advance through Scarborough Art Gallery.

Saturday 19 April, 2-4pm
Illustration workshop with artist Sheena Dawson inspired by the exhibition Fairy Tales and Fantasy. Suitable for young people and adults age 16 upwards. Places are limited and should be booked in advance through Scarborough Art Gallery.

Literature Festival Events at Scarborough Art Gallery

Thursday 17 April 2008, 10-11am and 11 - 12 noon
Listening, Looking and Dressing-Up
An opportunity to hear the stories illustrated in the Gallery's Fairytales exhibition, look at the pictures and dress-up as a fairy or goblin. Led by writer John Clarke.
For accompanied children aged 1 to 4 years.

Saturday 3 May 2008, Drop in between 2 and 4 pm
Dressing-Up Art Workshop
Create fairy and goblin accessories to match your dressing-up clothes inspired by the exhibition Fairytales and Fantasy. Led by artist Dawn Brooks.
Suitable for accompanied children age 4 - 11 years.

To celebrate Museums and Galleries Month (1-31 May 2008) Scarborough Art Gallery is running a unique music event:

Saturday 10 May, (two sessions) 11am–12noon and 12 – 1 pm
Family Fun Music Session

Join Kathy Seabrook of The Spa Orchestra, to make music inspired by the exhibition Fairy Tales and Fantasy. Suitable for families with children aged from six months. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
